Tamil Nadu government marriage assistance schemes are being implemented by the state government. 7 Marriage Assistance Schemes are implemented to help poor parents, orphan girls, widows to remarry, widows’ daughter’s marriage and inter-caste married couples’ daughters. These TN Sarkari Marriage Assistance Schemes are basically designed to ensure that no parent becomes indebted on account of their daughter’s marriage.

In most communities, it is a customary cultural requirement for a girl to wear “Thirumangalam” made of gold during marriage. The parents celebrate the marriage ceremony according to their customs and cultural background. However, parents from economically weaker sections are not able to cope with the burden of expenses for the marriage of their daughters.

To help such parents and encourage them to educate their daughters till the right age, Tamil Nadu Government Marriage Assistance Schemes were launched by the TN State Government. Here is the complete details of how to apply online for Tamil Nadu government marriage assistance schemes along with eligibility criteria, list of documents and details.

Movalur Ramatheertham Ammaiyar Ninaevu Marriage Assistance Scheme

Objectives of the scheme:

To provide assistance to poor parents to get their daughters married and to promote the educational status of poor girls.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme-I:

  • Financial assistance of Rs 25,000 and, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Scheme-II:

50,000 financial assistance and from the date of 23.05.2016, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

eligibility criteria :

Scheme-I:

  • The bride must have studied 10 thStd (passed or failed)
  • If she studies from private or distance education then bride should be 10th pass.
  • In case of ST, the bride should have studied up to VSDT.

Scheme-II:

  • Degree holders from Regular Colleges, Distance Education / Open Universities recognized by Govt. are eligible.
  • Diploma holders should possess Diploma Certificate from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.
General Criteria:
  • The annual income does not exceed Rs.72,000/- for the family
  • Only one girl child in the family is eligible.
  • The groom should have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage. There is no upper age limit.
Certificates to be attached with the application:
  • copy of school transfer certificate
  • Copy of X std Mark Sheet for Scheme-I
  • Copy of degree/diploma certificate for claiming assistance under Scheme-II
  • income certificate
  • Wedding invitation (within 40 days from the date of marriage. Applications may be accepted the day before the wedding only in exceptional circumstances).

Dr. Dharmabal Ammaiyar Ninaevu Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme

Objectives of the scheme:

To encourage widow remarriage and resettlement of widows.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme I:

25,000 (Rs. 15,000 in the form of financial assistance and National Savings Certificate of Rs. 10,000) and from the date of 23.05.2016, an 8 gram gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Scheme II:

50,000 (financial assistance of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 in the form of National Savings Certificate) and from the date of 23.05.2016, an 8 gram gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

eligibility criteria :

Scheme-I:

Education qualification is not required.

Scheme-II:

  • Degree holders from Regular Colleges, Distance Education / Open Universities recognized by Govt. are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be qualified from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.
General:
  • no income limit
  • The groom should have completed 20 years of age at the time of marriage, 40 years of age is the upper age limit.

Objectives of the scheme:

To help the poor widows who have faced financial constraints in getting their daughters married by providing assistance for the marriage of their daughters.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme-I:

25,000 and from the date of 23.05.2016, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Scheme-II:

50,000 and with effect from the date 23.05.2016, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Objectives of the scheme:

To help orphan girls financially for their marriage.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme-I:

25,000 and from the date of 23.05.2016, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

Scheme-II:

50,000 and with effect from the date 23.05.2016, 8 gm gold coin (22 carat) is provided for making Thirumangalam.

  • Degree holders from Regular Colleges, Distance Education / Open Universities recognized by Govt. are eligible.

Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Ninaavu Inter-caste Marriage Assistance Scheme

Objectives of the scheme:

To eliminate discrimination based on marriage and by encouraging inter-caste marriages to eliminate caste and community feelings.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme-I:

eligibility criteria :

The following two categories of inter-caste marriage can avail benefits:-

Category I:

Assistance is provided to newly married couples, one of the spouses should be from SC/ST and the other from a different community.

Category II:

Assistance is provided to a newly married couple, one of the spouses from the other community (forward community) and the other from the back ward class/ most backward class community.

Scheme I:

Education qualification is not required.

Scheme II:

  • Degree holders from Regular Colleges, Distance Education / Open Universities recognized by Govt. are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be qualified from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.
General:
  • No income limit.
  • The groom should have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage. There is no upper age limit

Saathiyavani Muthu Ammaiyar Nineivu Free Supply Sewing Machine Scheme

Objectives of the scheme:

Sewing makins are supplied free of cost for the purpose of increasing self-employment potential for the rehabilitation of destitute women/widows, deserted wives, differently abled men and women, socially affected women and women from economically weaker sections .

Assistance Provided:

To whom benefit is to be given:
  • Destitute women/widows, deserted wives, differently-abled men and women, socially affected women and women from economically weaker sections
  • Must have knowledge of tailoring
  • The age of the applicant should be 20 years and not more than 40 years at the time of application.

  • Destitute / Deserted / Widow / Differently abled Certificate
  • Family Income Certificate (Less than Rs. 72000/-)
  • Completed 6 months Tailoring Course Certificate

girl child protection scheme

Promote girl child education, eliminate female feticide, discourage preference for male child, promote small family norms, promote welfare of girl child in poor families and raise the status of girl child.

Assistance Provided:

Scheme 1:

Rs.50,000/- Fixed Deposit in the name of the girl child for the family

Plan 2:

Rs.25000/- Fixed Deposit for each girl child where there are only two girl children in the family. (Annual interest amount will be given to the girl child from the sixth year of deposit)

eligibility criteria :
  • Either parent should get vasectomy within 35 years of age
  • There should be only one/two female children in the family
  • There is no male child in their family and no male child should be adopted in future.
  • The parent/grand parent must be a domicile of Tamil Nadu for a period of 10 years at the time of submission of application.

Scheme I:

Application should be made before completing 3 years of age.

Scheme II:

  • The application should be made before the second girl child completes the age of 3 years.
  • The annual income does not exceed Rs.72,000/- for the family
Certificates to be attached with the application:
  • Birth Certificate for Girl Child (Corporation/Taluk Office/Municipality Office)
