National Family Health Survey 4 – Report
According to the report of National Family Health Survey 4 conducted in the financial year 2015-2016, 58% of young women in the age group of 15 to 24 years use clothes for menstrual protection. Using clothes causes diseases. The NFHS-4 report also states that 42% of young women use sanitary napkins, of which 16% use pads that are locally manufactured.
In addition, about 78% women in urban areas use sanitary sanitary napkin pads while only 48% women in rural areas use clean sanitary napkins. Hence there is a great need for the state governments to ensure that rural women also use sanitary pads to prevent diseases. Apart from this, all the sanitary pads available in the market are non-biodegradable, which causes harm to the environment. Therefore sanitary napkins given under Haryana Mahila and Kishori Samman Yojana will save the environment as it is bio-degradable.
