Amidst the protests over the Agneepath scheme, the three armies have tried to clear the confusion of the youth by holding a press conference on Sunday (June 19). On Agneepath scheme, Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said that every year around 17,600 people are taking premature retirement from the three services. No one ever tried to ask him what he would do after retirement. On this new scheme, he said that this reform was pending for a long time. We want to bring youth and experience with this reform. Today, a large number of jawans are about 30 years old and officers are getting the command much later than before.

There shall be no discrimination against them in terms of service. Compensation of Rs 1 crore will be given to the ‘agnivars’ who have laid down their lives in the service of the country. The announcements regarding reservation for ‘Agneepath’ announced by various ministries and departments were pre-planned and were not in response to the arson that followed the announcement of the Agneepath scheme. General Anil Puri said that we had not anticipated the recent violence regarding this plan. There is no place for indiscipline in the armed forces. All the candidates will have to give a written oath that they will not indulge in any kind of arson/violence and cannot participate if any FIR is registered against them. They (aspirants) will be asked to write as part of the enrollment form that they were not part of the arson, their police verification will be done. Arson is the foundation of the Indian Army in discipline, there is no place for sabotage. Each person will give a certificate that they were not part of the protest or vandalism. Police Verification is 100%, without it no one can join. No place for indiscipline. Candidates will write an affidavit in the nomination paper that they are not involved in arson. Police verification will be done. And if FIR is registered, they cannot get involved in it.
